While the land is flat, the prairie elevators are tall, the love for the Riders is extreme, and even the people tend to grow a bit bigger than elsewhere. This was certainly the case with Edouard Beaupre, the man who would become the Willow Bunch Giant, one of the tallest men in recorded history. Born in Willow Bunch on Jan. 9, 1881, he was the first of 20 children born to Gaspard and Florestine. Not only was he the first child to ever be baptized in the community, he would also become its most famous resident. As a seven-year-old, he was of normal he...

We are so proud of this innovative sector that is backbone of our communities and economy. Our researchers and farmers literally feed the world. And while they would never ask for it, they deserve our recognition and thanks. Happy Canadian Agriculture Day!

While the area had been settled for several years, the first post office to have the name Dummer appeared on Sept. 1, 1909 on the homestead of John Patterson. His wife served as postmistress at the location until 1912, followed by several postmasters over the years until service eventually stopped at the community. As for the name Dummer, that comes from the name of a township in Peterborough County in Ontario, which itself was organized in 1821. As with most communities, the hamlet can owe its start thanks to the railroad. ...

Welcome to Saskatchewan! Often known as an incredibly flat province, nothing could be further from the truth. With lush boreal forests and pristine lakes in the North to prairie landscapes and badlands in the South, Saskatchewan is the perfect place for outdoor lovers to explore. We drove a pontoon boat around Lake Waskesiu, learned about the province's first nations at Wanuskewin Heritage Centre, and went for a float in Canada's version of the dead sea. We also toured the RCMP Heritage Centre, witnessed the RCMP sunset ceremony, climbed a massive sand dune, and hiked through one of the few remaining natural grasslands in North America. We packed a lot of adventures into our short visit and can't wait to return one day and explore the province further. We explored Saskatchewan from July...
